We're a community of hands, hearts, and soil. Building gardens. Strengthening families. Growing a movement from the ground up in Birmingham.
Free community classes in gardening, nutrition, and more. No experience needed — just show up.
Our Why
Say's Village was born during COVID-19 when Birmingham families needed more than promises — they needed people who showed up. What started as filling childcare and tutoring gaps has grown into a community-rooted organization committed to justice, dignity, and the belief that no family should have to fight alone.
We prioritize care, consistency, and culturally grounded support. Because equitable access to education, safe spaces, food, and opportunity aren't privileges — they're what every community deserves.
What We Build
Meet Kizzi
With over a decade in childcare and youth development, Kizzi saw firsthand how early support systems, family stability, and community investment directly shape long-term outcomes. She didn't theorize about it — she lived it.
She paused college for 8 years to raise three children. When she came back, she earned her B.A. in Anthropology, then kept going — now pursuing her Master's in Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights at UAB, where she serves as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Human Rights.
We are the bricolage. Meaningful change starts at the community and relationship level — not through institutions alone.
Community Voices
"This isn't just a garden — it's the first time my kids understood where food actually comes from. They won't stop talking about it."
"Kizzi doesn't just talk about change. She hands you a shovel and says 'let's build.' That energy is contagious."
"I came for the free garden class. I stayed because I found a whole community that actually cares about each other."
"Say's Village showed my daughter that people who look like her are leading real change. That representation matters more than any textbook."
"Every neighborhood deserves what Say's Village is building. Fresh food, real education, and people who show up consistently."
"The workshops changed how I think about food and health. Now I'm growing my own tomatoes and teaching my neighbors too."

Now Underway
Our most ambitious chapter yet. We're expanding urban agriculture across Birmingham — transforming empty lots into thriving food sources, building skills, creating self-sustaining systems, and proving that community-led change is the most powerful kind there is.
